Supervision is a service for therapists, counsellors and other professionals working in emotionally complex and demanding roles. Supervision is an essential aspect of developing and reinvigorating your clinical practice.
It is a shared mode of reflection that allows another practitioner or a group of practitioners to share expertise, shed light on blind spots, think collaboratively about tricky situations and provide collegial support and encouragement. Structured reflection supports ethical, precise practice and protects the safety of you and your clients. It helps prevent burnout and makes you less susceptible to secondary trauma. I myself engage in regular supervision, and believe it is an essential element of good therapeutic practice throughout ones career. As a supervisor I draw on my training at the Institute of Group Analysis, which is psychoanalytical and talk-based, and enhance it with creative arts based exploration. The degree to which I use one or the other mode depends very much on the supervisee and the clients we are thinking about together. I offer both individual and group supervision. |
